How Would You Remove the Brick Veneer Siding?

Most of the people prefer brick veneer for sidings. It is one of the most attractive and cost-effective material that serves its purpose for so long after the installation. But once it gets outdated or worn out, it needs to be replaced immediately. Some homeowners want to replace it just to add a new colour or design. So, you must know how to remove the brick veneer siding without hiring a contractor for help.

Here are few steps mentioned that you can follow to remove your brick veneer siding.

  • Safety

First of all, you should ensure your safety before you start removing the brick veneer siding. Since you will be standing at a certain height, the chances of falling and getting injured are quite higher. So, you must make sure that your ladder is stable. Moreover, the shoes you are wearing should have a hard sole. It is even better if you wear a helmet, dust mask, goggles, gloves, and knee pads to protect yourself from the dust or any sudden fall.

  • Cleaning

You must clean the walls before you remove brick veneer siding. If you don’t clean all the dust and debris beforehand, it will start flying as soon as you start working on the walls. So, it is better if you preplan everything and try to cover all the windows and doors properly. Otherwise, the dust might enter your home. You can use a drop cloth or plastic sheet to cover all the valuable accessories, furniture, and entry points of your home.

  • Mark the Siding

You might want to remove a certain area of the brick veneer siding instead of all of it. So, it is better if you mark the portion that you want to remove. This way, you will be able to separate the rest of the area that you want to keep from the area that you don’t need anymore. You can use a marking pen or a carpenter level to draw the lines at the siding.

  • Sawing & Removing

Now you can use a saw along the boundary lines you have drawn to get rid of the unwanted portion of the brick veneer siding. Also, make sure that you don’t cut through the surface with which the siding is attached. Remove the bricks inside the marked area by starting from the top and working down. Force the blade of the chisel inside the brick carefully to break it. You can also use a hammer to remove the first brick as it is the most difficult one. It will be then easier for you to remove the rest of the bricks.

  • Finish & Clean

After removing the bricks, you will be left with the small pieces of bricks and debris build ups on the surface. You can again use your chisel to clear the surface of the wall. However, you should use a grinder to remove those pieces that can cause damage to the wall. Gather the pieces and debris with a shovel to clean up the area after you are done.
